Management

  • Human Resources
    • Manages subcontractors and employees.
    • Maintains class, workshop, event, and teacher training schedules.
  • Finance
    • Runs payroll every 2 weeks.
    • Manages all other financial responsibilities for James Joyce, LLC.
  • Sales
    • Determines price structure.
    • Purchases and manages all products sold online and in the boutique.
  • Operations
    • Maintains the facility and equipment.
    • Handles all lease negotiations.
  • Marketing
    • Maintains modernyogacle.com.
    • Manages all advertising.

Teachers

  • Maintain a membership with the Yoga Alliance.
  • Hold a current CPR certification.
  • Maintain individual insurance.
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of class. Mop floor with disinfectant after each class.
  • If you are teaching yoga elsewhere, please let us know. If you are teaching yoga at a competing studio, gym, coffee shop, basement, etc., without an open dialog, we will no longer need your service. 
  • Handle some administrative duties such as student check in and class and/or retail purchases.
  • Maintain a yoga practice, preferably at Modern Yoga.
  • Receive and provide feedback on teaching and policies.
  • Interact with your students.
  • Follow class standards (see below).
  • Ask permission to adjust and assist.
  • Music: 
    • Not required. 
    • Choose the songs carefully. Avoid love songs.
    • Minimize songs with words. 
    • If you cannot be sure that every student will like a song, don’t use it.
    • If a song is sung in a different language, like Sanskrit, be sure to know the meaning. 
    • Music can be a distraction and is generally not used in meditation. Sounds used during class should come with value for yoga students.

The studio can be open every day of the year. Holiday schedules will be communicated in advance. Teachers and staff are not required to work on holidays, but may have the option to do so.

 

Desk Staff

  • Refer to the desktop manual for procedures on how to open, close, clean, etc.
  • Welcomes clients.
  • Answers phone.
  • Ensures waivers are signed for new clients.
  • Checks clients into class – verifies class enrollment with the teacher.
  • Facilitates sales of memberships, class passes and boutique items.
  • Accurately and intelligently communicate class types and class package options.
  • Accurately and intelligently communicate about any item in the boutique.
  • Cleans boutique and bathrooms.
  • Replaces and changes garbage bags in bathrooms and boutique.
  • Cleans, dries, folds and organizes laundry.
  • Ensures there is a sufficient supply of cold towels for the upcoming classes.
  • If a scheduled shift cannot be worked, please contact co-workers. If a substitute cannot be found, please contact Joyce.
  • Desk staff must not practice yoga while working during prime time classes. If desk staff does practice yoga, said person is still responsible for the lobby. Please set your mat up right by the lobby window or door. Do not enter the class until 5 minutes after it starts. Leave the class at least 5 minutes before it ends. 
  • Staff Evaluation 
  • Desk staff will be evaluated quarterly upon the following:
  • Knowledge of classes offered and products sold.
  • Ability to accurately check in clients.
  • Teacher feedback.
  • Reliability.
  • Opening and closing accuracies.
  • Cleanliness of boutique, bathrooms and studio.
  • Feedback from the next shift.

Pay Structure

  • 500 hour ERYT: $4 per student
  • 500 hour RYT: $3 per student
  • 200 hour ERYT: $3 per student
  • 200 hour RYT with more than 500 teaching hours:
    • 0 students: $15
    • 1-5 students: $25
    • 6-10 students: $30
    • 11-15 students: $35
    • 16-20 students: $40
    • 21-30 students: $50
    • 30+ students: $65
  • 200 hour RYT with less than 500 teaching hours:
    • 0 students: $10
    • 1-5 students: $20
    • 6-10 students: $25
    • 11-15 students: $30
    • 16-20 students: $35
    • 21-30 students: $40
    • 30+ students: $50
